Duration: 3–6 Months (For Credit)
Position Summary
Age Well Senior Services is dedicated to promoting the independence, wellness, and dignity of older adults in Orange County, California. The Friendly Visitor Program is an integral part of this mission, providing regular social contact and companionship to isolated or homebound seniors.
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to support the operations of our Friendly Visitor Program. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in program management, volunteer coordination, and social services, while contributing to the well-being of the community.
This is an unpaid internship for academic credit. Applicants must be able to commit to a 3- to 6-month term and meet all requirements for receiving course credit from their educational institution.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will work directly with the Program Manager and assist with essential functions, including:
- Client and Volunteer Matching: Assist in screening applicants and matching senior clients with compatible volunteers based on location, availability, and shared interests.
- Volunteer Coordination: Support the management of the volunteer team, including initial contact, scheduling first visits, and sending welcome/follow-up communications.
- Client Communication: Assist in ongoing communication with both senior clients and volunteers (monthly or as needed) to gather feedback, address questions, and resolve concerns.
- Administrative Support: Help with program documentation, including ensuring volunteer hours are recorded weekly and filing client registration forms and codes of conduct.
- Problem Resolution: Aid in addressing and resolving concerns from volunteers or seniors to ensure the effective management of the program.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., Social Work, Non-Profit Management, Gerontology, Psychology, or related field).
- Must be eligible to receive academic credit for the duration of the internship (3–6 months).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A compassionate and respectful approach to working with older adults and volunteers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or G Suite.
