First Light Florida is a Florida nonprofit serving three populations in Lake County and the surrounding region: teens in crisis, military veterans and their families, and churches and faith-based organizations. Currently seeking an anchor partner and pending 501c3 application. This is an unpaid volunteer board position. Reasonable, pre-approved expenses related to board service may be reimbursed per board policy.

    The Role

The Treasurer is a voting officer of the Board of Directors and the principal financial steward of the organization. This is a hands-on role, not a ceremonial one.

    • Present financial reports at board meetings and at the annual meeting
    • Chair or serve on the Finance Committee as established by the board
    • Work with the Executive Director on the annual budget and budget-to-actual review
    • Ensure timely filing of required federal and state forms, including IRS Form 990 once 501(c)(3) determination is issued
    • Help establish and maintain internal financial controls and approval procedures
    • Review banking, expense, and reimbursement practices for accuracy and compliance
    • Support audit readiness as the organization grows

    • Comfort with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
    • Familiarity with IRS filing requirements for tax-exempt organizations (or willingness to learn)
    • Strong attention to detail and discretion with sensitive information
    • Ability to attend regular board meetings and respond to financial matters between meetings
    • Alignment with the mission and standards of First Light Florida

CPA, CFP, MBA, or comparable financial background is welcome but not required. Lived experience in nonprofit, church, or veteran-serving finance is valued.
