Description
Help Believe in Me maintain accurate, timely financial records that support accountable programs for underserved youth and young people.
The volunteer Bookkeeper/Accountant will perform approved accounting support under authorized financial oversight, with clear separation of duties and no independent control of funds.
Responsibilities:
- Record and categorize approved transactions using source documentation and the authorized chart of accounts
- Reconcile approved bank, card, payment, donation, and vendor records
- Maintain accounts payable, receivable, restricted-fund, grant, and reimbursement support schedules
- Prepare draft monthly reports, variance notes, and audit or filing support
- Identify missing documentation, duplicates, unusual items, coding questions, and control issues
- Protect bank, tax, payroll, donor, vendor, and participant information
- Follow approval, access, retention, backup, and separation-of-duties procedures
- Never initiate payments, transfer funds, change bank access, sign returns, or approve personal work
- Escalate suspected fraud, errors, conflicts, or policy exceptions promptly
Qualifications:
- Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, nonprofit finance, audit support, or financial administration
- Strong reconciliations, documentation, spreadsheets, accounting systems, accuracy, and confidentiality
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting, restricted funds, and internal controls is helpful
- At least 25 years old and willing to complete background, reference, and conflict checks
- Ability to work within limited, approved system access
This is a remote, recurring role available within the United States. Expect approximately 4–8 hours per month.
