    Description

    Volunteer Senior Translator (Native Speaker) – UN Official Languages: Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin

    International Foundation for World Freedom (IFWF) is seeking highly qualified volunteer translators to support the translation of our research publications, policy briefs, educational resources, and public communications into the five official United Nations languages.

    We are currently recruiting native speakers of:

    • Arabic
    • Chinese (Simplified and/or Traditional)
    • French
    • Russian
    • Spanish

    These volunteer positions are intended for distinguished professionals who wish to contribute their expertise to expanding global access to research and policy initiatives that promote economic inclusion, financial literacy, human rights, and sustainable development.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    Volunteer translators will:

    • Translate policy briefs, research papers, reports, educational materials, and website content.
    • Ensure translations preserve the original meaning, academic quality, and professional tone.
    • Adapt terminology appropriately for regional and cultural audiences while maintaining consistency.
    • Collaborate with IFWF researchers, editors, and subject-matter experts.
    • Participate in occasional virtual meetings regarding translation standards and publication schedules.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Applicants should possess:

    • A Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Translation, Linguistics, Languages, Literature, or another closely related academic field.
    • Native-level fluency in one of the five target languages listed above.
    • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
    • A minimum of 10 years of professional translation experience.
    • Demonstrated experience translating academic, research, legal, governmental, policy, economic, or technical documents.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to linguistic accuracy.
    • Ability to work independently while meeting agreed deadlines.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preference will be given to candidates who:

    • Are legally authorized to work in the United States.
    • Reside in the United States.
    • Have previous experience supporting nonprofit organizations, international organizations, universities, or research institutions.
    • Have published translations or extensive experience working with scholarly publications.

    Volunteer Commitment

    • Initial commitment of 3–6 months.
    • Approximately up to 8 hours per week, with the opportunity to contribute additional time based on project availability and volunteer interest.
    • Flexible remote schedule.
    • Fully virtual position.
