    Description

    Position Title: Board of Trustees Member (Volunteer)

    Organization: Open Doors Academy (or your school name)

    Location: Remote

    Commitment: Volunteer (Approx. 3–6 hours per month)

    Position Overview

    The Board of Trustees Member is a volunteer leadership role responsible for providing governance, strategic direction, and oversight to ensure the success and sustainability of the organization. Board members support the mission, uphold fiduciary responsibilities, and advocate for the school and its students.

    Key Responsibilities

    Governance & Oversight

    • Participate in board meetings and contribute to decision-making
    • Review and approve organizational policies, budgets, and strategic plans
    • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards

    Strategic Leadership

    • Support the development and implementation of the organization’s mission and vision
    • Provide guidance to the Executive Director/Head of School
    • Help identify growth opportunities and long-term planning strategies

    Financial Stewardship

    • Oversee financial health, including budgets and fundraising efforts
    • Review financial reports and ensure responsible use of funds
    • Support grant development and donor engagement when possible

    Advocacy & Community Engagement

    • Act as an ambassador for the organization
    • Build relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders
    • Promote an inclusive, affirming environment aligned with LGBTQ+ values

    Support & Accountability

    • Provide guidance and support to leadership staff
    • Evaluate the performance of the Executive Director
    • Maintain confidentiality and act in the best interest of the organization

    Qualifications

    • Passion for education, equity, and LGBTQ+ inclusive environments
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills
    • Experience in education, nonprofit work, finance, law, or leadership (preferred but not required)
    • Commitment to ethical leadership and organizational mission

    Expectations

    • Attend regular board meetings (monthly or quarterly)
    • Participate in committees or special projects as needed
    • Contribute time, expertise, or resources to support the organization
    • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality

    Compensation

    This is a volunteer, unpaid position. However, board members gain valuable leadership experience and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
