PET FOOD DISTRIBUTION & LOGISTICS COORDINATOR — VOLUNTEER
GreenePets Foster Network, Inc. — Greene County, Tennessee
Too many elderly people in our county are being forced to make impossible choices.
After paying for housing, utilities, medicine, groceries, and transportation, there may simply not be enough money left to buy food for the dog or cat who has been beside them for years.
For many seniors, that pet isn't "just a pet."
It may be their family, their companionship, their reason to get up in the morning, and the one constant they still have.
GreenePets Foster Network wants to help make sure financial hardship does not separate elderly Greene County residents from the animals they love.
WHAT WE ARE BUILDING
We are establishing a pet food assistance and distribution program specifically for elderly residents of Greene County.
Pet food will come from several sources, including:
- Community donations
- Donated food from businesses and organizations
- Food purchased through GreenePets
- Food purchased personally when funds allow
- Public fundraising specifically for the program
Whenever possible, we will obtain larger bags and purchase economically, so every donated dollar feeds as many pets as possible.
WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP RUN IT
Dwight and I can help provide the food and financial support, but we are no longer able to physically manage a project of this size ourselves.
We need a dependable volunteer who can take the ball and run with it.
This person would help organize the practical side of the program, including:
- Establishing an organized food distribution system
- Coordinating volunteers
- Helping receive incoming donations and larger food shipments
- Arranging transportation when necessary
- Organizing temporary food storage
- Maintaining a simple inventory
- Scheduling distribution days
- Helping elderly residents receive the food they need
- Keeping basic records of food received and distributed
- Helping develop the program as demand grows
You do not need to personally lift hundreds or thousands of pounds of dog and cat food.
We need someone capable of organizing the people, vehicles, equipment, schedules, and volunteers who can.
WE ALSO NEED HANDS-ON VOLUNTEERS
Some volunteers may only be able to help occasionally, and that is valuable too.
We will need people who can:
- Load and unload bags of pet food
- Pick up donated food
- Transport food in trucks, SUVs, vans, or trailers
- Sort and organize donations
- Prepare food for distribution
- Help seniors load food into their vehicles
- Deliver food when an elderly recipient is physically unable to pick it up
- Help during community distribution days
WHO THIS PROGRAM IS FOR
This program is being created specifically to help elderly residents of Greene County who are struggling financially to feed their pets.
Our purpose is not complicated.
Feed the pet. Help the senior. Keep them together.
No elderly person should have to surrender a beloved dog or cat simply because the cost of living has climbed beyond what their fixed income can handle.
THIS NEED WILL NOT DISAPPEAR AFTER ONE SHIPMENT
This isn't intended to be a one-time food giveaway.
We want to build a sustainable community program supported by donations, fundraising, businesses, volunteers, and people who believe our elderly neighbors deserve a little help.
The food may come from many places.
The mission remains the same:
KEEP PETS WITH THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM.
If you are organized, dependable, compassionate, and capable of helping us turn donated and purchased pet food into a functioning community program, we need you.

How to Volunteer for This Opportunity
Here’s a stronger version that spells out the kind of person GreenePets actually needs in this role:
Please tell us about your experience with organizing people, managing projects, coordinating deliveries, working with volunteers, inventory, community outreach, or helping elderly residents.
We especially need someone who can work independently, communicate clearly, solve problems, keep simple records, follow through on commitments, and help build an organized system rather than wait to be told every step.
Helpful abilities include coordinating volunteers, scheduling, telephone and email communication, basic computer skills, tracking donations and inventory, arranging transportation, and handling unexpected changes calmly.
Please also tell us:
- What days and times you are generally available
- Whether you can help on short notice when large food donations arrive
- Whether you have reliable transportation
- Whether you have access to a truck, SUV, van, or trailer
- Whether you are able to lift bags of pet food, and approximately how much
- Whether you would be comfortable coordinating other volunteers
- Whether you have experience working with seniors, nonprofits, food distribution, churches, community groups, or emergency assistance programs
We are looking for a dependable person who can eventually take real ownership of the day-to-day logistics of this program and help us make sure donated and purchased pet food reaches elderly Greene County residents who genuinely need the help.
I’d use this version because it quietly screens out the “tell me what to do every five minutes” applicant. You need someone who can organize, communicate, and follow through, not just somebody willing to carry a bag of dog food.
