Position Overview
Maison des Talibés is seeking motivated volunteers to support basic first aid and health awareness activities for street-connected talibé children attending the center in Darou, Saint-Louis.
The volunteer will contribute to the delivery of non-clinical first aid support and health awareness sessions aimed at improving children’s well-being, safety, and understanding of basic hygiene and health practices, in close collaboration with local staff.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide basic first aid support for minor injuries and everyday health issues, within a non-medical framework
- Facilitate health awareness and hygiene activities (personal hygiene, wound care basics, hydration, prevention of common illnesses)
- Use age-appropriate and participatory methods to engage children aged 5 to 18
- Ensure a safe, calm, and respectful environment during all activities
- Collaborate with local staff for referrals when medical attention is required
- Contribute to the development of simple, sustainable health awareness tools and practices at the center
Profile Sought
We are looking for volunteers who:
- Have training or experience in first aid, basic healthcare, nursing, public health, or related fields
- Are calm, attentive, and comfortable working with children
- Understand the limits of a non-clinical, community-based role
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity, humility, and respect for local practices
Formal medical certification is not required, but first aid training or relevant experience is a strong asset.
Time Commitment
- Minimum commitment: 1 week
- Approximate involvement: 15 hours per week or more
- Schedule to be defined collaboratively with the team
Languages
- French or English required
- Wolof or Pulaar is an asset but not mandatory
