On Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom, remembrance, and community action. It is a day to honor the historic end of slavery in the United States while recognizing the ongoing work needed to advance racial justice, equity, and collective healing.
The Massachusetts Juneteenth Council of America encourages individuals, families, organizations, and community partners to get involved by supporting local nonprofits, volunteering their time and skills, and participating in meaningful community events. Skilled volunteers provide vital services that help nonprofits strengthen their impact and move their missions forward.
As part of our Juneteenth celebration, we invite the community to join us in the Juneteenth Parade March — a powerful public expression of unity, pride, remembrance, and progress. Through the parade, we honor our ancestors, uplift the voices of today’s leaders, and celebrate the resilience, culture, and contributions of Black communities.
We envision a world where nonprofits working for social justice have the essential resources, visibility, and support they need to thrive. Fueled by our core purpose — to drive positive social change — we remain committed to building that future together.
On this historic day, we close our offices and encourage our team and community members to take time to listen, reflect, learn, serve, and march in solidarity.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Massachusetts Juneteenth Council of America for the Juneteenth March Through Roxbury.
Volunteers will help support a meaningful community celebration honoring freedom, history, culture, and the ongoing work toward justice. Volunteer roles may include welcoming participants, assisting with parade/march flow, supporting setup and breakdown, helping with community outreach, guiding attendees, and creating a positive and respectful environment.
Please wear comfortable shoes and proper attire for walking, standing, and being outdoors. We encourage volunteers to dress in respectful, family-friendly clothing and, when possible, wear Juneteenth colors: red, black, green, gold, or white.
Additional details, including arrival time, meeting location, and role assignments, will be shared with confirmed volunteers before the event.
