    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, social-emotional learning, literacy, creative expression, and community-centered programming.

    As technology becomes increasingly connected to education, communication, and daily life, digital safety and literacy are no longer optional—they are foundational to protection, trust, and opportunity.

    About PromiseShield | Security, Privacy & Organizational Protection

    PromiseShield is MAP’s division responsible for cybersecurity, privacy, safeguarding, digital protection, and organizational risk management.

    The division works to ensure MAP’s systems, people, and digital environments remain secure while also helping build a culture of responsible technology use, digital literacy, and cybersecurity awareness across the organization and community.

    Role Overview

    MAP is seeking a Director of Security Education & Digital Literacy to help build and lead a department focused on cybersecurity awareness, online safety, digital responsibility, and emerging technology education.

    This role focuses on developing educational initiatives that support:

    • Workforce security awareness
    • Volunteer cybersecurity onboarding
    • Phishing prevention education
    • Family digital literacy
    • Youth online safety
    • AI literacy and ethics
    • Secure communication practices

    The ideal candidate understands that cybersecurity is not only technical—it is educational, behavioral, and deeply connected to trust and accessibility.

    This is a leadership and educational systems role focused on building a culture of digital safety and responsible technology use.

    Core Responsibilities

    Security Education & Awareness Programs

    • Develop and support cybersecurity awareness initiatives across MAP
    • Help create practical security education materials and training systems
    • Promote organization-wide digital responsibility and safe technology practices

    Workforce & Volunteer Security Training

    • Support staff and volunteer security onboarding initiatives
    • Help educate teams on phishing prevention, password safety, account protection, and secure communication practices
    • Assist with security awareness training and phishing simulation coordination

    Youth & Family Digital Literacy

    • Help develop digital literacy and online safety education for youth and families
    • Support age-appropriate education around internet safety, privacy, and digital well-being
    • Contribute to trauma-informed approaches to cybersecurity and online safety education

    AI Literacy & Emerging Technology Education

    • Help create accessible educational materials related to AI tools, ethics, and responsible technology use
    • Support conversations around digital ethics, misinformation, and safe engagement with emerging technologies
    • Promote thoughtful and human-centered technology education

    Cross-Division Collaboration

    • Work closely with PromiseLearning on youth education initiatives
    • Coordinate with PromiseStack and the Privacy Team on secure technology practices
    • Support organization-wide digital safety culture development

    Program Development & Department Building

    • Help establish systems, resources, and long-term strategy for the Security Education & Digital Literacy Department
    • Support development of scalable educational initiatives and workshops
    • Help strengthen MAP’s long-term digital resilience and awareness culture

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Strong communication, educational, or training skills
    • Interest in cybersecurity awareness, digital literacy, or technology education
    • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and accessibly
    • Strong organizational and collaboration abilities
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience in cybersecurity awareness, IT training, digital literacy, education, or online safety initiatives
    • Familiarity with phishing prevention, secure communication practices, or AI literacy
    • Experience working with youth, families, or mission-driven organizations
    • Interest in trauma-informed education and ethical technology use

    Commitment

    • Volunteer leadership role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment required
    • Remote / hybrid collaboration
