    Position Overview

    Special Olympics Volunteers play a vital role in supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities by helping provide inclusive, safe, and joyful sports and community experiences. Volunteers assist with athletic events, practices, fundraising, and athlete support, ensuring participants feel welcomed, encouraged, and celebrated.

    Key Responsibilities

    Responsibilities may vary by event and role, but may include:

    • Assisting with Special Olympics sporting events, competitions, and practices
    • Supporting athletes before, during, and after events
    • Providing encouragement and positive reinforcement to athletes
    • Assisting with event setup, registration, and breakdown
    • Helping coaches and staff with drills, equipment, or logistics
    • Serving as a timekeeper, scorekeeper, or event marshal (training provided)
    • Assisting with awards ceremonies and athlete recognition
    • Promoting an inclusive, respectful, and safe environment for all participants

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least the minimum age required for the specific volunteer role
    • Ability to work respectfully with individuals of all abilities
    • Positive attitude, patience, and strong interpersonal skills
    • Willingness to follow Special Olympics policies and safety guidelines
    • Ability to work as part of a team
    • Background check is required
