    Description

Climate Trace Puerto Rico is a climate justice initiative working at the intersection of territory, community participation, climate governance, and collective action. We document community struggles, make visible solutions that sustain life, and support participatory spaces rooted in Puerto Rico while connecting with other Caribbean territories and non-sovereign archipelagos.

We are looking for volunteers who want to contribute time, skills, and care to an ecosystem of initiatives at different stages of development. This work includes documenting community-led projects, building maps and archives, creating narratives, and supporting spaces of collective learning and action.

We are not looking for “perfect experts.” We are looking for people committed to climate justice, collaboration, and learning together.

    Areas You Can Contribute To

(You may participate in one or more areas, depending on your interest and availability)

    • Infrastructure and Essential Services - Documenting projects related to water, energy, housing, transportation, and waste from a community-centered, life-affirming perspective.
    • Territory, Ecosystems, and Defense - Mapping socio-environmental conflicts, supporting territorial defenders, and documenting co-management and land defense processes.
    • Cartographies of Harm and Resistance - Supporting the documentation of climate impacts on physical and mental health, and participatory mapping of risks and community resources.
    • Food and Food Sovereignty - Mapping local food systems, markets, agriculture, and fisheries in the context of climate change.
    • Climate Justice, Migration, and Environmental Racism - Research and documentation related to displacement, migration, militarism, colonial legacies, and climate justice.
    • Communications, Design, and Networks - Supporting social media, visual materials, writing, storytelling, and outreach.

    Responsibilities (depending on role)

    • Support documentation of projects, initiatives, or community experiences
    • Participate in periodic virtual meetings and in-person meetings (if possible)
    • Contribute to maps, briefs, dossiers, educational materials, or digital content
    • Collaborate respectfully with communities and partner groups
    • Engage in a horizontal, participatory, and learning-oriented environment

    Desired Profile

    • Commitment to climate, social, and environmental justice
    • Interest in community-based work, participatory research, or communications
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Prior experience is welcome but not required
    • We especially welcome people from Puerto Rico, the diaspora, the Caribbean, and Latin America
    • Spanish fluency is welcome, but not required
