    Impact Director

    Role Overview

The Impact Director leads Surmount New York’s efforts to build strong community connections, expand external partnerships, and maximize the reach and effectiveness of our programs and resources. Combining strategic oversight with hands-on execution, the Impact Director shapes our community presence, oversees the Resource Fellows program and Airtable resource database, and manages outreach staff and volunteers. This role ensures Surmount’s engagement across the city is strategic, meaningful, culturally relevant, and measurable.

    Key Responsibilities

1- Strategic Leadership & Team Management

Team Oversight: Direct and support the Community Engagement Manager, Coordinators, Resource Fellows, and engagement volunteers, ensuring team members feel prepared, aligned, and supported.

Organizational Strategy: Collaborate with the Executive Director to design, implement, and evaluate Surmount’s overarching community engagement plan.

Cross-Team Collaboration: Represent engagement initiatives at leadership meetings, provide monthly updates on programs, partnerships, and impact metrics, and work closely with internal teams to ensure organizational alignment.

Development & Growth: Assist with organizational growth efforts, including partnership cultivation, community outreach campaigns, and fundraising initiatives.

2- External Partnerships & Program Support

Partner Cultivation: Serve as the primary point of contact for strategic community partners across food, housing, education, healthcare, and human services.

Programs Alignment: Lead partner calls, draft partnership agreements, and identify continuous opportunities for collaboration to support Surmount’s programs.

Relationship Management: Maintain partner records, follow up on collaborative actions, and communicate community needs clearly and professionally.

3- Community Engagement & Public Visibility

Outreach Execution: Design and execute grassroots engagement strategies, including local events, tabling series, school partnerships, and community gatherings.

Signature Events: Support the planning and implementation of signature initiatives, such as the Summer Tabling Series and the Community Empowerment Fair.

Public Representation: Represent Surmount New York at partner meetings, coalition convenings, and public events to build brand recognition and engagement across the city.

Awareness Initiatives: Develop small-scale initiatives and collaborate with the Marketing Team on campaigns (such as the monthly “Surmount Shares” series) to highlight essential community resources.

4- Resource Database & Resource Fellows Oversight

Fellows Program Management: Oversee the Resource Fellows program, ensuring student interaction, curriculum support, and research activities align with organizational goals.

Airtable Database Management: Maintain and regularly update Surmount’s Airtable resource database, ensuring all entry data is accurate, accessible, up to date, and culturally relevant.

Process Vetting & Transition: Enforce and refine resource vetting protocols, address coverage gaps, and prepare the database infrastructure for future transition to a dedicated team.

    Experience & Qualifications

Lived Experience: We strongly encourage individuals with lived experience in New York’s (or similar) underserved communities to apply.

Community Leadership: Prior experience in community organizing, volunteer management, nonprofit outreach, or program administration.

Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain trust-based partnerships with community organizations, local stakeholders, and volunteers.

Database & Tech Familiarity: Experience using Airtable or similar relational databases/CRM systems for resource management or data tracking is highly preferred.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to represent Surmount professionally across diverse settings.

    Benefits

Meaningful Impact: Directly contribute to uplifting New York communities through accessible resources, mentorship, and community support.

Executive Leadership Experience: Gain hands-on leadership, strategy, and management experience within a growing nonprofit organization.

Professional Networking: Connect with professionals, community leaders, and organizations across the New York nonprofit sector.

Supportive Environment: Onboarding, training, and ongoing mentorship are provided to support your professional growth in the role.
