    Description

    Good Neighbor Volunteer Day

Good Neighbor America has developed the first nationwide Volunteer Day. Star Thrower Group has been approved as a charity to be posted as a location where volunteers can commit to a day of service. This will benefit our community center by helping us with our projects and building relationships with others who serve the community.

Star Thrower Group, a Flemington-based nonprofit, helps young adults with mild cognitive and developmental disabilities build lives of purpose. Our needs include many tasks to help improve our building, which is a hub for young adults to access the community and develop skills to gain independence, jobs, housing, and build their lives as adults. Good Neighbor America is recruiting volunteers like you to help service organizations across the country. We applied, and submitted a list of tasks. Here is a sampling of what we hope to accomplish through this event:

    • Hanging smart board and projector
    • Making and putting up signs for upcoming Fashion Show fundraiser
    • Consolidating items in storage and moving into outdoor storage pod.
    • Rearranging office furniture
    • Removing broken furniture and items around the dumpster shed
    • Putting shelving units together in the storage closet and organizing
    • Removing old blinds, replacing ceiling tiles
    • Securing countertops (kitchen, desk) and fixing wobbly tables
    • Putting up flyers for fundraisers on community boards.
    • Remove cubicle parts/walls to post on Marketplace/freecycle
    • Hang whiteboards and bulletin boards
    • Move water cooler and rack

We need MUSCLE, CREATIVITY, and helping hands! There are many other tasks to accomplish that will be made easier with more people present. Your time is a precious gift and these tasks will make our space more accessible and functional for programming.

Star Thrower Group develops programs supporting our mission to build inclusive communities, inspire careers, and make connections that help young adults with special needs have successful and happy adult lives. We help our members learn about scheduling and time management, communications skills, and many more transferable skills and experiences.

Our community center serves over 75 families who join us from six counties. Our main goal is to empower members to develop effective communication skills, practice decision making and problem solving, and learn from natural consequences because life doesn’t always work out the way we think it will. Our community center brings people together, because we all need connection and support. None of this would be possible without the families, volunteers, and community who believe in our mission of building inclusive communities, inspiring careers, and making the connections that help young adults with special needs have successful and happy adult lives.

Can we count on you to be a part of this amazing event? If you are unable to join us, please consider sharing with friends to invite them, or consider a donation to help with the work we need but can’t do without additional funds (update electric panel, install sinks, for example). All contributions help our cause and we can provide receipts for tax purposes. Thank you for your consideration.

We hope to see you on May 16 for Good Neighbor Day 2026.
