    Description

Title: Pro Bono Expert — Attorney Standard of Care (New York)

    Type: Volunteer / pro bono

Location: Remote (matter venued in New York)

About the role: I’m a self-represented litigant in a New York attorney-malpractice matter, looking for an experienced attorney willing to serve, pro bono, as an independent expert on the standard of care and professional responsibility. This is an access-to-justice request. I can’t fund a retained expert, and the case turns on whether qualified counsel will review the record and give an honest assessment.

I am not looking for a predetermined conclusion. I’m looking for someone who will read the materials, tell me straight whether the conduct fell below the standard of care, and put their name to that view only if they believe it.

    What it involves:

    • Reviewing a defined set of materials — pleadings, correspondence, billing records, and the client file
    • Forming an independent opinion on the standard of care and, where relevant, causation
    • If, and only if, your opinion supports it, providing a signed affidavit and potentially testimony

    Who I’m hoping to find:

    • An attorney admitted in New York, or eligible to opine here
    • Substantial civil litigation experience
    • Ideally, service on a state grievance or disciplinary committee, or recognized expertise in professional responsibility and legal ethics
    • No prior connection to the parties or the underlying matters
    • Comfortable working on a pro bono basis

Time commitment: A focused review followed by a written affidavit — likely several hours over a few weeks, scheduled around your availability.
