    Description

Volunteer for The Builders of the New World (BNW), an award-winning after-school theater-arts education program that has helped thousands of children from over 20 temporary housing facilities, since 1995. BNW teaches children an educational vision of opening up their imagination to look into the future and the tangible steps they must take to make that wonderful vision a reality.

Join us as a volunteer Mentor and Program Assistant in delivering this heartfelt program and be a part of this very meaningful revolutionary process. Our program includes 5 weeks of life-changing creative classes for the children taught by ATW’s Artistic Director and Founder Thurman E. Scott, family-style meals we enjoy together at each session, creative classes, and a final performance for a loving audience of invited community members and business leaders.

ATW’s Mentorship program provides you and your colleagues (either as a team or individuals) with the opportunity to support and mentor 7-14 year old children in a safe, creative environment. Our program will enable you to serve the community while growing and gaining new skills and insights - enhance team building, improve inter-group communication skills, address diversity issues with compassion and expansive thinking, and develop creative expression through a deeply rewarding shared experience.

NEXT STEPS on How to Become a BNW Mentor:

    1. Each potential Mentor will complete an Individual Mentor Application https://bit.ly/ATWVolunteerApplication
    2. Attend an Information & Interview session where you’ll gain a clearer understanding of our program, your role as a participant, and the uplifting, rewarding experience you will have. Take part in a 15-20 minute interview.
    3. Participate in a creative training session with ATW’s Artistic Director and Founder, Thurman E. Scott where you will learn innovative original creative techniques founded by this theater.
    4. Mentor the children in weekly Monday and Saturday classes/rehearsals April 13 - May 13, 2026
    5. Mentors will also use their professional expertise as part of a production team, and team actions take place every week
