    Description

    The Volunteer GED Teacher plays a vital role in helping adult learners prepare to earn their GED credential. Volunteers provide instruction, encouragement, and academic support in one or more GED subject areas while fostering a positive and respectful learning environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education and committed to helping adults achieve their educational and career goals.

    Responsibilities

    • Plan and teach engaging GED preparation lessons in Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and/or Social Studies.
    • Assess students' academic strengths and areas for improvement.
    • Provide individualized tutoring and small-group instruction.
    • Help students develop effective study habits and test-taking strategies.
    • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
    • Encourage student participation, confidence, and perseverance.
    • Maintain attendance and basic instructional records as requested.
    • Collaborate with TRTC staff to support student success.
    • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma required; bachelor's degree or teaching experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of GED subject matter and adult learning principles.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Patience, compassion, and the ability to motivate adult learners.
    • Comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
    • Experience in education, tutoring, mentoring, or workforce development is preferred but not required.

    Time Commitment

    • Minimum of 4-8 hours per week
    • Volunteer commitment of at least three months preferred.
    • Flexible weekday and evening opportunities may be available.
