Some of our patients are facing their terminal illness and final days without the support of family or friends to surround them. At AccentCare Hospice, we believe that no one should die alone unless they choose to, so we utilize trained and compassionate Vigil Volunteers to provide supportive presence to patients lacking support.
Vigil Volunteers provide supportive presence to patients in their final days and hours by holding their hands, playing music, offering reassurance, creating a peaceful environment, etc. Human presence at end of life can help reduce pain, anxiety and fear. Vigil Volunteers may or may not be present when a patient takes their last breath.
No previous hospice experience is needed, AccentCare Hospice will provide training and support throughout your time as a volunteer. Vigil volunteers need 3 months of patient companionship volunteering with us before transitioning to Vigil Volunteering.
If you are looking for a deeply rewarding volunteer opportunity, then this is for you!
