Love Helping Children Succeed in School?

Support Young Learners in Local Classrooms

Norfolk County RSVP invites volunteers age 55 and older to make a meaningful difference in local elementary schools by providing one‑on‑one and small group support to students who need extra attention. Volunteers assist with reading, math, and a variety of classroom enrichment activities.

No teaching experience is required — just patience, compassion, and a desire to help children succeed.

    What You’ll Do

As an Elementary School Classroom Volunteer, you will:

    • Support students individually or in small groups during classroom activities
    • Assist children who need extra help in reading or math
    • Provide encouragement and help build academic confidence
    • Support teachers with classroom activities such as arts & crafts, music, science, or library time (varies by school)
    • Serve as a steady, supportive presence in a Pre‑K through 5th grade classroom

    Participating Communities

RSVP currently has Pre‑K–5 volunteer placements in:

    • Dedham
    • Norwood
    • Walpole

Volunteers are matched with schools based on location preference, availability, and classroom interests.

    Time Commitment

    • 1–1.5 hours per week
    • Runs through the end of the school year
    • Consistent weekly attendance helps students thrive

    Training & Screening

    All school volunteers complete:

    • CORI background check
    • Interview with RSVP staff
    • Two 2.5‑hour orientation and training sessions to prepare for classroom placement

RSVP staff and host teachers provide ongoing support throughout the school year.

    Who Should Apply

    • Enjoy working with young children
    • Want a short but meaningful weekly commitment
