Volunteers Needed - Make a Meaningful Difference
Details
Description
About the Opportunity
A little of your time can make a big difference in someone’s life.
At Home Care Hospice is seeking compassionate, dependable volunteers to support hospice patients and their families throughout the Williamsburg area. Whether you enjoy visiting with others, offering practical support, sharing your talents, or helping behind the scenes, there are several ways to get involved.
Hospice volunteering is about bringing comfort, companionship, and dignity to patients while offering support to the people who care for them.
The time commitment is flexible. Even one hour per week can make a difference, and weekend availability is welcome.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers can serve in a variety of roles based on their interests, availability, and training.
- Patient Companionship: Visit with patients, share conversations, read aloud, play games, or simply offer a comforting presence.
- Caregiver Respite: Spend time with a patient so a family caregiver can take a short break.
- Bedside Vigil: Provide a calm, supportive presence for patients nearing the end of life.
- Tuck-In Calls: Make weekly calls to check on patients’ needs and medical supplies.
- Light Housekeeping: Help with simple household tasks to support patient comfort.
- Administrative Support: Assist with office tasks as needs arise.
- Special Skills and Interests: Share your musical talents or other abilities to bring comfort and connection to patients.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome compassionate individuals who are dependable, respectful, and willing to serve patients and families with kindness. You do not need previous hospice experience. Training and guidance are provided.
This is a meaningful opportunity for college students, retirees, working professionals, community members, and anyone who wants to give back. Volunteers who speak with patients who share their military background or personal interests may also provide a special sense of connection.
Training and Commitment
All volunteers complete an onboarding process that includes an application, background screening, drug screening, TB testing, and orientation. We guide volunteers through each step.
We ask for a minimum six-month commitment to help provide consistency for the patients and families we serve.
Get Involved
You don’t need to have a medical background or lots of free time to make a difference. You simply need a willingness to show up, listen, and offer kindness.
