    Description

    This volunteer position is the first person a guest will encounter when visiting the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Admissions area. Admissions/Redemptions Lobby Greeters help the Customer Service staff in the lobby by greeting and welcoming visitors to the shelter and asking how we can assist them. The main services provided at the admissions lobby are turning in stray pets, reuniting owners with lost pets, surrendering owned pets by appointment and requesting euthanasia for owned pets that are suffering. This volunteer will be the first to provide information about shelter policies and resources, as well as matching resources to the needs of the citizens as available. This volunteer will also log visitor information and have guests fill out proper paperwork prior to giving it to the Customer Service Representative. This volunteer is also expected to manage the lobby by directing visitor traffic and ensuring that customers are assisted by staff in an orderly fashion. They are to keep their station clean and well stocked as well as help to answer questions.

    • Greet all visitors in a positive manner with a smile
    • Check in visitors using methods provided by Customer Service Supervisor
    • Direct visitor traffic while managing lobby customer flow
    • Manage the “first come, first served” line of customers to ensure customers are helped by Customer Service staff in an orderly fashion
    • Maintain a supply and make available applications and informational materials
    • Maintain supply of clipboards, pens, forms, etc.
    • Be up to date on all new procedures and protocols
    • Be knowledgeable about animal services offered by Broward County
    • Provides customer assistance for those looking for a Lost pet
    • Promote Foster program for kittens under 2lbs.
    • Help scan animals for microchips
    • Tidy and help upkeep lobby and outdoor area
    • Work independently with minimal supervision
    • Must support Broward County Animal Care’s mission, policies, and practices.
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
    • Must have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
    • Must have a general knowledge of all Animal Care’s programs and departments.
    • Must be able to maintain a healthy working relationship with staff members.
    • Must be able to multi-task.
    • English proficiency preferred because communication is essential.

    Is prior experience required?

    No experience is needed—we provide orientation and on-the-job training.

    What’s the time commitment?

    Volunteers commit to at least 8 hours within a 3-month period to stay active.

    Can I earn school community service hours?

    Yes, if you’re 16 or older. Students under 16 can foster or host a donation drive instead (email foster@broward.org or animalcarevolunteer@broward.org).

    Do you accept seasonal volunteers?

    Absolutely. Just let the Volunteer Coordinator know your availability.

    Is a background check required?

    Yes! All volunteers complete a background check.

    Do I need to live in Broward County?

    No, residency is not required.

    Can youth volunteers help at events?

    Yes, but you must be 18 or older to handle animals and provide your own transportation.

    I already have dog-walking experience. Do I still need training?

    Yes. All dog walkers complete our training to ensure the safety of animals, volunteers, staff, and visitors.

    Can I change my volunteer assignment?

    Yes, you are welcome to explore different departments where help is needed most.

    Can I just show up to volunteer?

    No. All shifts must be scheduled via Volgistics in advance to keep operations running smoothly.
