    Description

    Shuttle Driver for International Seafarers

The Seattle Seafarers Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and our mission is to welcome and care for seafarers who visit Puget Sound.

Each year during the cruise ship season (May to September), the Center offers a daily shuttle service for cruise ship crews that runs between Terminal 91 and downtown Seattle. Staff and volunteers greet seafarers and offer transportation to the downtown shopping district in exchange for donations that help us maintain our vans and pay for fuel.

Cruise ship crewmembers come from all over the world and work in areas ranging from housekeeping to navigation to entertainment. When a cruise ship comes into port, all of the guests disembark, and then some of the workers are given time to leave the ship while others remain on board to prepare the ship for the next group of passengers. It is important that those leaving the ship can accomplish everything on their to do list and return to the ship in time for it to leave the port.

We are seeking volunteer shuttle drivers to drive our 15-passenger vans. Driving shifts are from 8:00am to 2:30pm every day there is a ship in port (typically Thursday - Tuesday). You can help if you can drive every week, or even once a month. Volunteer drivers have a unique opportunity to meet seafarers from all over the world and provide them an important service.

Interested in volunteering, but not comfortable driving a large van? We also have a Lot Coordinator volunteer opportunity - Lot Coordinators will be stationed at Pier 91 from 8:30am - 11:00am on days when there are multiple ships in port, and will welcome crewmembers and provide information as they wait for the shuttle.

To sign up as a volunteer shuttle driver, first complete this form (we run a driver's record check on all volunteer drivers): https://forms.gle/zwSqyb4DGrbUgyP79

After filling out the form, you can then sign up for individual driving shifts on our website: https://www.mts-seattle.org/cruise-ship-volunteer-sign-up

We will also have 2 volunteer orientations in April:

    1. Thursday, April 16 at 3:00pm
    2. Saturday, April 18 at 10:00am

Both orientations will be held at our Center (1011 SW Klickitat Way, Suite 209, Seattle, WA 98134). If you are not able to attend an orientation, we will work with you to provide training before your first driving shift.
