Sourcewise – Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) Santa Clara, California is looking for compassionate, dependable, committed candidates to become HICAP Counselors.

As a HICAP Counselor, you will help provide free assistance and educate the Medicare beneficiaries, analyze their insurance needs, compare policies, help file claims and appeals, or help fill out applications. HICAP Counselors provide free in-person, virtual and over-the-phone counseling at our HICAP office or at a partner site, like a local senior or community center in Santa Clara County.

    Requirements

. Commit to a minimum of 30 hrs. of initial training followed by 10 internship hours.

. Commit to at least 40 hrs. of counseling annually to maintain the state registration.

. Have a means of transportation.

. Not have a conflict of interest.

Please note: Persons who hold a current license to sell insurance or who receive financial or other remuneration from any health insurer, including managed care plans (HMOs/PPOs), Part D plans or health care providers are ineligible to apply for the role.

Experienced HICAP Counselors could become presenters for HICAP outreach events or become Senior Medicare Patrol Counselors or Long-term care Counselors. The volunteers receive no-cost rigorous training through online self-paced courses, and a nine-day virtual course. Those who complete initial training, pass the exam, and successfully complete mentorship, would then be registered with the California Department of Aging as HICAP Counselors.

If interested, please contact the HICAP Volunteer Supervisor or Volunteer Coordinator at hicapinterest@mysourcewise.com
