About the Role
This is a volunteer board role for a Substance Use Recovery & Prevention Board Member at The Healing Circle Foundation. The Substance Use Recovery & Prevention Board Member will help guide programs, partnerships, and outreach efforts that support prevention, healing, recovery, and family resilience. This role is ideal for someone passionate about trauma-informed care, community wellness, substance use prevention, and helping people access supportive resources in a respectful and stigma-free way.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of programs and events focused on substance use prevention, recovery, wellness, and community education.
- Help identify and build relationships with clinics, treatment providers, prevention programs, community organizations, faith groups, and wellness partners.
- Assist with outreach to organizations serving youth, adults, and families affected by substance use and related challenges.
- Contribute ideas for workshops, support groups, healing circles, prevention campaigns, and culturally responsive programming.
- Help raise awareness of the foundation’s services and mission within recovery and prevention communities.
- Participate in board discussions, planning sessions, and community engagement efforts.
- Support fundraising, partnership development, and advocacy efforts when appropriate.
- Offer insight on accessibility, inclusion, and respectful engagement with individuals and families impacted by substance use.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in substance use prevention, recovery support, trauma healing, or community wellness.
- Experience in nonprofit work, behavioral health, counseling, social services, outreach, or program development is preferred.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to think creatively about healing-centered and culturally responsive programming.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community care.
- Willingness to collaborate with leadership and contribute time as a volunteer board member.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Skills
- Background in substance use prevention, recovery services, behavioral health, mental health, social work, or community outreach.
- Public speaking or outreach experience.
- Familiarity with prevention programs, treatment networks, or recovery support systems.
- Experience with event planning, fundraising, or nonprofit partnership development.
- Bilingual ability is a plus.
Pay range and compensation package
Volunteer board position with opportunities for mission involvement, leadership experience, community impact, and potential future stipends or commission-based opportunities tied to funded projects.
