Hospice Companion Volunteer

Our mission and philosophy at Apex Hospice Care, Inc., is to provide professional, quality support centering on the patient, family and caregiver. We do this by providing compassionate, respectful assistance and comfort to those who are facing life’s most challenging time.

We are requesting your help in providing companionship to our hospice patients in Orange County. As a Companion Volunteer, you would be visiting patients to provide company and support during the remaining days of their life.

Some activities included in this role are:

• Conversing/Reminiscing
• Letter Writing
• Board games/cards
• Reading aloud
• Going on walks
• Light chores for patients
• Light report making

If you have any special talents or activities that could be shared with patients, please list them in the questionnaire. We would love to hear your ideas for contribution! Some additional activities may be:

• Scrapbooking
• Playing a musical instrument
• Pet Care
• Arts and Crafts
• Knitting/Embroidery
• Meditation
• And more!

We work with your schedule! Companion sessions could vary from one hour to a few dependent on your availability.

There is no experience or education required for this role.

Any time volunteering will go towards service hours that can be used for academic programs or your resume.

We have several patients in need of companionship all over Orange County; we would pair you up with a patient in a city near you.

This role requires:

• Background Check
• Driver's License
• Proof of auto insurance
• Proof of TB testing within last 6 months (we offer free TB testing if needed)
• One session of Orientation/Training (counts toward hours)
• Light traveling to patients' homes/communities
• Light report making
