Calling all book lovers and community helpers! 📚
Read 2 Succeed needs 60–80 volunteers to help bring the Reading Opens the World Family Literacy Festival to life! From Thursday, September 24, through Sunday, September 27, volunteers will help unpack and organize 30,000 free books, set up the festival, staff activity booths, serve food, welcome families, clean up, and more.
Come for one three-hour shift, one day, or several! Individuals, families, professional organizations, clubs, community groups, and workplace teams are all welcome. Children and teens may volunteer alongside an adult.
📦 Thursday–Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.: Choose a shift to help unpack, lift, and move boxes; sort and organize books; clean; and prepare the festival space.
🎉 Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.: Choose a shift to help finish setting up, staff booths, serve food, support families during the 12–4 p.m. festival, or clean up afterward.

Food, snacks, and water will be provided onsite. NOTE: All volunteers must complete a quick Level I Buncombe County Schools volunteer background check that will be emailed to you after you sign up.

How to Volunteer for This Opportunity
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Family Literacy Festival! Volunteers will help support event activities, welcome families, distribute books, assist with setup and/or breakdown, and help create a fun and welcoming experience for attendees.
Please complete the interest form with your availability and areas of interest. After signing up, you'll receive a quick, free Level I Buncombe County Schools background check to complete — no additional documents are needed. Event details and volunteer assignments will be shared with confirmed volunteers prior to the festival.
