    Description

The Minds Matter Philadelphia Board is in an exciting stage of growth and development and we’re laying the foundation for long-term impact and organizational growth. We’re looking for Board Members who are energized by the opportunity to help design and strengthen the structures, practices, and culture that will guide Minds Matter Philly for years to come.

Board members are senior professionals who lend expertise, resources, and visibility to elevate Minds Matter’s mission in Philadelphia. The Board of Directors is the legal governing body of Minds Matter Philadelphia. Board members provide local leadership to ensure that every Minds Matter Philadelphia is positioned to thrive and that our students can access the full range of opportunities they deserve. Members steward our vision, strategy, and financial health ultimately ensuring that all Minds Matter Philadelphia students achieve extraordinary outcomes.

    BOARD MEMBER CORE BELIEFS:

    • Education is transformative: A college education has the power to significantly alter life trajectories
    • Socioeconomic status shouldn’t limit potential: Students from low-income backgrounds, given the right support, preparation, and encouragement, can perform at levels equal to their more advantaged peers. Structural barriers exist, but can be mitigated with the right supports.
    • Every student deserves a strong support network and high expectations.: When students are surrounded by consistent support and belief in their potential, their opportunities expand. Our role is not only to help them succeed academically, but also to build their leadership, professionalism and confidence.
    • Volunteer leadership and stewardship: Well-run volunteer programs can achieve high impact and giving ones time, energy, and resources is personally fulfilling and game changing. I can contribute in ways that will help our community thrive.
    • Sustainability & strategic growth are critical: In order for Minds Matter Philadelphia to continue its impact, there must be attention and intentionality given to long-term planning, strategic expansion, the support given to each MMP community member, and funding stability.

    TIME COMMITMENT

We hope that Board Members are able to engage in our shared work in ways that are most fulfilling to them. While attending Board meetings is a requirement, there are many other ways that Board Members can get more deeply involved in the organization.

    • Attend 4-6 Planned Board meetings each year, including one in-person retreat/planning session. Attend ad-hoc meetings as needed
    • Support in the launch of, advise and/or serve actively on at least one committee. Priority committees include a Fundraising Committee, Governance Committee and Finance Committee.
    • Participate in strategic planning and fundraising events
    • Engage in student/mentor facing programming in ways that most align to your interests/expertise, and that bring you the most fulfillment as a Board member. Board members may be invited to: Panel Discussions, Career Exposures, Program Interviews, “Meet the Board” events, Graduation, etc.
    • Commit to a renewable three-year term

    FINANCIAL COMMITMENT

    • Fulfill a $5,000 annual give/get, including a personally significant gift
    • Contribute to 100% Board giving each year offering a gift that is personally significant
