    Description

Arc Hospice is seeking compassionate volunteers to assist with our Veteran Program. You do not need to be a veteran to participate. Whether you would like to provide companionship, assist with recognition events, share a special talent, or support families, there are many meaningful ways to make a difference.

    Ways to contribute:

    Direct Veteran Support

    • Provide companionship by visiting veterans, listening to their stories, and spending time with them.
    • Participate in Veteran-to-Veteran visits if you are a veteran yourself.
    • Write or read letters with veterans who want to communicate with family or friends.
    • Assist with legacy projects, helping veterans document their memories, military service, and accomplishments.
    • Read aloud from books, newspapers, or materials related to military history and interests.

    Recognition and Honor Activities

    • Help organize pinning ceremonies or veteran recognition events.
    • Present certificates, flags, or tokens of appreciation during ceremonies honoring veterans' service.
    • Coordinate community thank-you campaigns, collecting cards and messages from schools, civic groups, or local organizations.
    • Support Veterans Day and Memorial Day observances hosted by the hospice.

    Family Support

    • Offer respite visits so family caregivers can rest, run errands, or attend appointments.
    • Provide emotional support through compassionate listening.
    • Help families access community resources for veterans and caregivers.
    • Assist with bereavement programs after a veteran's passing, if trained by the hospice.

    Administrative and Program Support

    • Help with office tasks, mailings, and data entry.
    • Assist in recruiting volunteers and promoting the hospice veteran program in the community.

    Special Skills Volunteers Can Share

    • Play music, sing, or provide other forms of entertainment.
    • Offer photography or video services for memory projects.
    • Lead crafts, storytelling, or recreational activities.
    • Quilt or sew veteran quilts, patriotic lap blankets, memory bears, or other handmade items that provide comfort and become cherished keepsakes for veterans and their families.
    • Share professional skills such as event planning, administrative support, or public speaking.

Have a special skill not mentioned above? Let us know what interests you. We believe everyone has something valuable to contribute, and we will work with you to find a meaningful volunteer role that aligns with your strengths and interests while supporting our patients, families, and community.
