About Girl Engineer

Girl Engineer is a registered nonprofit organization in Malawi under the Trustees Incorporation Act and the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA). As we strengthen our funding base and expand our programs, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Grants Specialist to support grant research, proposal development and resource mobilization for our projects supporting girls, young women and underserved communities.

This is a volunteer, remote-friendly opportunity.

Reports to: Director of Grants and Development Partnership

Key Responsibilities

• Research and identify relevant grant opportunities, foundations, corporate funders, and institutional donors aligned with Girl Engineer's programs.
• Monitor funding opportunities, application deadlines, eligibility requirements, and donor priorities.
• Maintain and regularly update a grants and funding opportunity pipeline.
• Review donor guidelines and assess funding opportunities for organizational fit.
• Support the development of high-quality grant proposals, concept notes, letters of inquiry and funding applications.
• Support the development of compelling case statements, project narratives and organizational profiles.
• Conduct research on prospective partners and funders to support long-term relationship building.
• Work collaboratively with Director of Grants and Partnership Development and contribute to a professional, ethical and mission-driven working environment.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum Bachelor's degree or MSc in Development Studies, International Development, Communications, Business, Nonprofit Management, Social Sciences or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience or strong knowledge of grant research, proposal writing, fundraising or resource mobilization.
• Ability to understand donor guidelines and translate project ideas into compelling funding proposals.
• Ability to work independently in a remote and multicultural environment.
• Previous nonprofit, NGO, development, or fundraising experience is an advantage.
