    Description

Volunteer for Community Swimathon and Pool Party

Our Genetic Legacy (OGL) is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to support our Community Swimathon & Pool Party, a family-friendly event kicking off Water Safety Awareness Month. This community celebration raises funds to expand youth programming that blends cultural preservation with STEM pathways, including drones, underwater ROVs, and marine science exploration.

We need day-of event volunteers to help us create a smooth, welcoming experience for families, swimmers, and supporters. We are also recruiting swim team participants who want to swim in the swimathon, fundraise, and represent community support for youth development.

    Event Date: May 2

Location: Jackie Robinson YMCA (San Diego)

Day-of Volunteer Roles (choose one or more)

    • Check-in and registration support
    • Lap counting and swimmer support
    • Event set-up and breakdown
    • Activity support (family stations, information tables, crowd flow)
    • General hospitality and volunteer floaters

    Swim Team Participants (Swimmers)

Join as a swimmer in a timed lap-swim round, invite your community to pledge per lap or donate, and help us fundraise for youth programs. All levels welcome—this is about community support and water confidence.

    Ideal Volunteers

    • Friendly, reliable, and community-minded
    • Comfortable assisting families and youth
    • Able to follow basic event instructions and work as a team
    • Swim team participants should be comfortable swimming laps (any pace)

    Time Commitment

Shifts available throughout the event window (morning and afternoon options). Exact shift times will be shared upon signup.

    Why This Matters

Your support helps expand access to water safety education and pathways into marine science and workforce development for young people—especially girls and youth from under-resourced communities.

Interested? Sign up to volunteer and/or join the swim team. We’ll follow up with roles, shifts, and next steps
