About the Opportunity
We are seeking a warm, patient, and reliable Companion Volunteer to support an Elder Place participant who experiences significant language barriers and would greatly benefit from social engagement.
Participant Needs
- Language Support: Assistance from someone who speaks Assyrian (Assyrian Neo-Aramaic) or can help bridge communication.
- Companionship: Enjoys games, conversation, and social activities.
- Social Support: Has limited opportunities to interact with others due to language challenges. Your presence can make a meaningful difference!
Volunteer Role Includes:
- Engaging the participant in simple games or conversation
- Providing consistent, friendly companionship
- Helping reduce feelings of isolation
- Supporting communication and comfort through shared language, when possible
Ideal Volunteer:
- Speaks Assyrian (preferred but not required willingness to support communication is welcome!)
- Patient, friendly, and dependable
- Comfortable spending time one‑on‑one with an older adult
- Ready to bring joy and connection into someone’s day
Why Volunteer?
Your time can brighten someone’s life. Even one hour a week can create connection, ease loneliness, and build trust with a participant who deeply values social interaction.
