    Description

Therapy Dogs for Youth Mental Health in Boulder, CO

Are you interested in joining the Paws for Patrick Therapy Dog Program? We invite you to become part

of a passionate community committed to improving the mental health of young people through the

powerful bond between humans and animals. At Paws for Patrick, we believe in the transformative

    comfort that animals can provide.

We are currently seeking dedicated therapy dog handlers who are eager to share the love and

support of their canine companions with those who need it most.

What Makes a Great Therapy Dog Team?

Therapy Dogs in our program should be:

    • Calm, friendly, and well-mannered around people of all ages
    • Comfortable working alongside other dogs
    • Affectionate, approachable, and enjoy being petted by strangers
    • Responsive to basic commands and eager to engage
    • Adaptable to different environments, including schools, therapeutic settings, and group events
    • At least 1 year old and non-reactive in busy or unfamiliar settings

    Handlers should be:

    • Reliable, responsible, and committed to their volunteer role
    • Confident in managing their dog and interacting with a variety of people
    • Comfortable in diverse environments such as mental health organizations, schools, and events
    • Flexible with scheduling and types of visits
    • Passionate about making a positive impact in their community
    • Available to attend a minimum of 2 visits per month

By joining our team, you and your dog can offer more than just a visit — you can bring connection,

comfort, and hope to a young person in need. Your presence might be the brightest moment in their day,

and a small but meaningful step in their healing journey. Many of our volunteers describe this work as

one of the most rewarding parts of their lives — knowing they’re making a real difference, one wag, one

smile, and one moment at a time.
