    Description

Board of Directors Member, Community Seat

ERA is on the cusp of making history! 2026-27 will be ERA’s 30th year as one of the original, oldest, and highest performing charter schools in NC.

Even with our strong foundation, it feels like we’ve only gotten started. With an energetic leadership team at the wheel, ERA is revving up to shift gears! Our exciting vision of 'excellence belongs to every student' includes projects such as expanded educational and extracurricular programming, enhanced and new facilities, stronger community partnerships, capital campaigning, and targeted growth. Come to board meetings or read our board minutes to learn firsthand how we are progressing.

That’s a lot, especially for a small team. We recognize our future success largely depends on the capacity and expertise of our leadership and our school’s board. We need to lay thoughtful plans, set the right pace, and make informed decisions to ensure ERA’s success while maintaining a sense of stability.

As a result, the Board is expanding our capacity, and the application period (Apr 6-Apr 27) is ongoing. This year we will add up to six new voting directors instead of only adding the usual three:

    • Two (2) parent seats
    • Two to four (2-4) community seats (non-parent) appointed by the board in May/June

The board needs passionate and experienced folks with specific skills such as:

    • Academic Excellence
    • Development and Fundraising
    • Facilities Management, Planning, and Building
    • Finance
    • Governance
    • Human Resources
    • Leadership
    • Legal
    • Public Relations, Communications and Marketing
    • Strategic Planning

If you can help, please consider applying. If you know folks in the broader community with these skills, please help connect them to us.

Eno River Academy is governed by a Board of Directors (BoD) made up of six (6) elected parents, one (1) to five (5) appointed greater-community members (non-ERA parents) and three (3) appointed senior administrators. Up to four (4) community member seats with 2-year terms are open for application. These seats are board voting members with terms July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2028.

The application period is open from Monday, April 6, 2026, through Monday, April 27, 2026. Please request and send completed applications no later than Monday, April 27, 2026 to jgreene@enoriveracademy.org

The ERA Board of Directors guides the school’s mission through stewardship, governance, and strategic planning. In partnership with the Executive Director, the Board sets the policies and strategic agenda of the school. The Executive Director is accountable for execution, and the Board oversees school performance. With a commitment to transparency, the Board ensures that:

    • ERA’s strategic goals are defined, supported, and achieved
    • ERA’s academic program is successful
    • ERA’s operational programs comply with terms of our charter, state laws, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards
    • ERA is a viable organization including financial solvency and competent professional staff

We desire members who are passionate about ERA’s mission, vision, educational program and values. We seek individuals who have an entrepreneurial spirit, who are willing to have conversations and civil debates about issues that face our school, and who will consider and value the good of the school when discussing topics and making decisions.

Board members must be willing to prepare for and attend monthly meetings and an annual retreat, serve as board officers and/or committee members, attend select school activities, complete initial and annual training objectives, be available if emergency situations arise, and be knowledgeable about and compliant with the school policies and procedures.

Serving on the Board can also offer significant personal development and growth in terms of

    • governing through a board structure,
    • leading through mission, policy, and goals,
    • exposure to a broad range of topics, and
    • serving students, families, teachers, and the community.
