    Description

    Volunteer for Elementary School Fieldtrips

Five Oaks Ag Research and Education Center is a 501(c)3 agricultural nonprofit organization. Throughout the fall and spring semesters, we are proud to partner with elementary schools across the state of Arkansas and offer day long field trips for students in the 3rd and 4th grades.

What do our field trips look like? Imagine the game of "Clue" meets the great outdoors. Upon arrival, each class is divided into four teams. The students eagerly listen to the story, written by our team, titled, "Where is Mike Mallard?" Halfway through the story, or at the point that Mike goes missing, the instructor stops reading the story and charges each team to work together to locate Mike Mallard himself!

There are four teams in total. Each team rotates through the following stations:

    1. Gone Fishing - In this exciting station, you will teach the students how to bait a hook and cast a line in our fishing pond located behind our lodge.
    2. Archery - Have you ever shot a bow and arrow before? In this exciting station, students have the opportunity to participate in the sport of archery at our range.
    3. Wacky Waters - this is a crowd favorite! Students put on a pair of rubber boots and wade into a shallow body of water. Using dip nets, children scoop up various invertebrates, which they later identify under a microscope.
    4. Wilderness Wonders - Students participate in an exciting scavenger hunt through the woods. In this station, they learn about various animals, what food sources they rely on, and at the end of the station, they work together to build a fire and make s'mores

We need volunteers who are eager and willing to teach a class of 20-25 students per camp. As a volunteer, you will be assigned one station. Prior to camp, you will be given all the needed lesson plans and materials in order to successfully provide instruction. We kindly ask that you come ready to serve a great group of kids!
