    About Mentor A Promise

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. Visual design plays a critical role in how we communicate, engage, and represent our mission across platforms.

    About PromiseStudios | Creative, Design & Production

    PromiseStudios is MAP’s creative division responsible for visual identity, design systems, and creative production. The division ensures that all visual output is consistent, high-quality, and aligned with MAP’s brand and voice.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking an Assistant Graphic Designer to support the creation and production of visual materials across MAP’s programs, campaigns, and communications.

    This role focuses on executing design tasks, supporting the design team, and ensuring that visual assets are consistent, organized, and aligned with established brand guidelines.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design Execution

    • Support creation of visual assets for digital and print use
    • Assist in designing graphics for social media, presentations, and program materials
    • Follow established brand guidelines to ensure consistency

    Creative Production Support

    • Assist with layout, formatting, and design updates
    • Support preparation of assets for publication and distribution
    • Help adapt designs across multiple formats and platforms

    Design Systems & Consistency

    • Ensure all design work aligns with MAP’s visual identity
    • Support implementation of templates and design standards
    • Assist in maintaining organized design files and assets

    Collaboration & Coordination

    • Work with design leads and cross-functional teams to support creative needs
    • Respond to design requests and support timely delivery of assets
    • Collaborate with communications and program teams

    Learning & Development

    • Receive feedback and improve design skills through practice and iteration
    • Support ongoing creative projects and initiatives
    • Contribute ideas while maintaining alignment with design direction

    Communication & Responsiveness

    • Maintain clear and timely communication with the design team
    • Track assigned tasks and deadlines
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Basic to intermediate experience in graphic design
    • Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar)
    • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
    • Ability to follow guidelines and take feedback
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Portfolio of design work (academic, freelance, or personal projects)
    • Experience with digital content, social media graphics, or layout design
    • Interest in branding, storytelling, and visual communication
    • Experience working in collaborative or team environments

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Hybrid / remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
