Position Overview

Are you passionate about making a difference and empowering other young people with disabilities? Are you looking for great work experience? The Youth Advisor volunteer opportunity at the Dayle McIntosh is an opportunity to have fun, make new friends, help your community and disabled peers! Participate in youth community outreach, assist in developing a program by and for people with disabilities, and provide one-to-one peer support to youth as needed.

Responsibilities

• Promote the youth program and invite youth with disabilities from minority backgrounds to participate
• Develop and present group lessons focused on education and employment opportunities
• Provide one-on-one peer support to youth when needed
• Assist with follow-up with youth in the program
• Perform other duties as assigned by youth program staff

• Able to work well with a team
• Able to relate to and connect with peers/youth
• Show sensitivity to, and understanding of, individuals from diverse disability, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds

Requirements

• Must be 18 to 30 years old
• Person with a disability
• Have completed or left high school
• From a racial and/or ethnic minority background
• Currently in adult transition program or recently transitioned
• Complete the interview, pass a background check, and attend orientation
• Wear a face mask in the office
• Log volunteer hours after every shift
• Maintain the confidentiality of Dayle McIntosh Center information

Schedule

• Youth sessions are held on the first Friday of each month in Mission Viejo from 4pm-7pm and the second, third and fourth Saturday of each month in Anaheim from 10am-4pm. You are not required to attend every week, you can choose to join one, some, or all of them based on your availability.

• Volunteering with in person groups requires COVID-19 vaccination.
