    Medical Professional Volunteers Needed for Disaster Response (Wilson, NC)

    Are you a licensed NC medical professional? Do you want to volunteer your expertise in your community? The American Red Cross needs you!

    The Red Cross has an ongoing need for individuals with active and unencumbered NC medical licenses to serve as a Disaster Health Services volunteer. In this role, volunteers support the Disaster Action Team volunteers, responding to year-round local disasters such as home fires, floods, tornados, etc. The Disaster Health Services volunteer meets the disaster related health needs of clients in activities such as replacing durable health equipment, medication, glasses, dentures, etc.

    We offer free BLS classes as well as CEUs to keep skills current.

    Time Commitment:

    • Disaster Health Services volunteers mostly work virtually to meet and assist those impacted by disasters. Disaster Health Services volunteers work as a team and are on call from 8 am-8 pm.The days are flexible as per a volunteer’s schedule, but we request 4-5 days per month.
    • Health Services volunteers primarily assist virtually to support local responses but there may be in-person opportunities in shelters or to deploy to National disaster responses.

    Disaster Health Services Volunteer Qualifications:

    • Active and unencumbered multistate/NC licensure as a RN, LPN/LVN, MD/DO, PA, EMT or Paramedic.Retired volunteer MD/PA licenses allow for limited scope of practice for the volunteer.
    • Must meet training requirement for Disaster Health Services Service Associate (9, self-paced online training courses that take approximately 6.5 hours to complete)
