    Description

Skilled Volunteer Build Teams for Urgent & Disaster Home Repair Projects

Community Housing Coalition of Madison County is seeking volunteer groups with their own tools to support critical home repair projects for local neighbors. We welcome youth groups and older adult groups, as long as your team includes a highly skilled adult construction leader who can supervise work onsite and guide volunteers safely through the project. This opportunity is for experienced volunteer groups who can bring their own tools and provide an adult construction leader to supervise onsite work.

    Projects may include:

    • Carpentry and structural repairs
    • French Drains
    • Exterior repairs and weatherization
    • Interior repairs and accessibility improvements
    • Porch and ramp builds
    • Painting and prep
    • Drywall and flooring
    • Roofing support tasks
    • Drainage and gutter work
    • Jobsite cleanup and debris removal
    • Project matching

CHC matches groups to projects based on the construction leader’s experience so the scope stays safe, realistic, and appropriate. Construction leaders complete a brief 1 to 5 skills rating from no skill to professional.

    Standards and accountability

Safety and quality are essential. Work that is left incomplete or does not meet CHC standards may result in the group being responsible for related project costs. When applicable, work must also align with CHC guidelines and ADA accessibility standards.

    Licensed work

    • Electrical and plumbing tasks must be completed by licensed professionals.

    Ideal volunteer groups

    1. Have residential repair experience and can safely lead a team on a worksite
    2. Bring tools and a clear plan for supervision and safety
    3. Know when a task is beyond volunteer scope and communicate early
    4. Can use power tools safely
    5. Are able to travel to Madison County NC for the project dates
    6. Can contribute funding toward volunteer projects, typically $500 to $8,000 depending on scope

Typical build teams are 4 to 15 volunteers per project, plus 1 to 2 adult construction leaders.

Group size can adjust based on project scope and leader capacity.
