Volunteer Mentor Opportunity for College Students
Details
Description
The Valedictorian Project partners with high-achieving, first-generation college students from under-resourced communities across Massachusetts — providing the mentorship, financial support, and coaching they need to persist through college and launch fulfilling careers.
Every TVP scholar is matched with two mentors — a peer mentor who offers practical, day-to-day guidance, and a senior mentor with established career experience. Matches are made intentionally, taking into account shared career interests, academic focus, background, and lived experience. These relationships are built for the long term, typically lasting four to six years.
What We Expect from Mentors
Consistent Connection
Mentors connect with their scholar at least once a month — virtually or in person. We encourage mentors to also build a relationship with their co-mentor, creating a coordinated team around each scholar.
Training & Development
All mentors complete onboarding training and participate in quarterly workshops covering topics such as relationship building, active listening, goal setting, and how to support scholars navigating academic, financial, and personal challenges. Training is offered live and by recording.
Ongoing Feedback
Mentors complete quarterly surveys and participate in periodic check-ins with TVP staff. This helps us support mentors and ensure every scholar is getting what they need.
