Volunteer Mentor (Big) - Southeast Michigan
Details
Description
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan is seeking adults who are ready to make a sustained, meaningful commitment to a child’s life. As a Big, you’ll be matched one-to-one with a child (your Little) in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties. You’ll meet regularly, an hour or two twice a month, and do activities of your choosing: explore the city, take a cooking class together, work on homework or projects, or simply hang out and talk. The goal isn’t programming, it’s relationship.
Why it matters: Research consistently shows that children with a mentor are more likely to graduate, avoid risky behavior, and develop confidence and resilience. Our model is built on the quality of the match and the consistency of the BIg. You are the intervention.
Who we’re looking for:
Adults 18 and older in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties
Able to commit an hour or two twice a month for a minimum of one year
Willing to complete a background check and online training
No specific professional background required
We especially need Bigs for boys, aged 7-14. More than 70 children are currently waiting. We provide thoughtful matching, ongoing staff support, and a community of fellow Bigs. You provide consistency. Apply today!
