Description
With the rapid development of technology and AI, the importance of the humanities is increasingly vital. AI can read texts and great work from those contributing philosophers accurately and efficiently; that work and those texts are valuable not just because they are written on paper and go viral throughout history, but because they carry the weight that humans, as rational beings, can understand. To this end, a student journal supports this goal.
New Philosophers is a sub-program under the management of the EthicSphere community, a student-driven initiative that showcases the students' philosophical thinking and humanities reasoning. We hope this program can reach out to a wide range of people, not limited to philosophy lovers or high schoolers; we expect people with different interests and at different ages to engage with this program. We plan to collect work from high schoolers and publish it under the name of New Philosophers. To maintain the quality of our journals, we need editors to help us review and evaluate them.
However, we want every applicant to know the basic requirements for joining this program, since this is a high school initiative rather than a nonprofit. Our team doesn't have adequate time and members to engage in editorial processes. Here are some basic requirements you need to meet to engage in this program:
- To be an editorial member, you need to turn in a publishable work to New Philosophers. We don't require any specific genre of work; it could be essays (on any humanities subject), poems, fiction, non-fiction (prose), or even artwork.
- Any work submitted cannot be AI-generated; we will have members review it. However, you may use AI to research, brainstorm, and challenge your work.
- Admitted members have to be able to join a group chat for work updates. It may happen on Instagram, Microsoft Teams, or messages. But it is required to be active.
Here are several standards that indicate the admission process:
- We do NOT care about how well you can write. We believe that humanities essays are about persuasion, illustration, and demonstration. Our goal is to reach as many people as possible, so the essays are supposed to be read by normal people rather than scholars.
- We care about your work entry so we can better understand your thinking and reasoning. However, the quality of your work would not affect the admission process, as we would never reject you based on it.
- We care more about your responsibility, especially about how you try to review the essay, and how reasonable your suggestions are.
We only need 10 members for this program. However, we would like to admit more people into the editorial groups if suitable. This is the admission process:
- Once we contact you and you submit your work entry, we will begin reviewing it.
- If needed, we will interview you about your work entry and personal interests.
- After the interview, we will announce your program status within 1 to 2 workdays. Possible statuses are: Admitted, Waitlisted, and Rejected.
- If you are on the waitlist, you may negotiate with the manager to gain a second consideration.
We promise to bring an open environment for the admission process. Whether you are admitted or not, thank you for your interest in this program, and your participation has already had an impact on the humanities.

Thank you so much for being interested in this program. My name is Amy, one of the founders of EthicSphere.
EthicSphere is a student-led community dedicated to philosophical dialogue and guided by the spirit of Humanities in Action. We create space for people to share and engage with humanities-centered ideas, grounded in the belief that philosophy, values, morality, and ethics are not abstract luxuries, but disciplines that—like any subject taught in school—can be learned, practiced, and developed.
New Philosophers is a student journal managed by the EthicSphere community. As we described in the intro, you would need to turn in a work entry. Please note that essay entries have to be no less than 600 words and up to 1500 words. Please turn in your work through this URL: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf8f6lOjYnsY6uMt91JFsej0i88KmjTMwH-k7-zaRD-dTWvVQ/viewform
Moreover, in addition to the New Philosophers program, we offer leadership programs. If you are interested in participating in or leading EthicSphere, please reach out to let us know your preference. By the way, if you have any questions, feel free to ask at any time.
