Role Overview
The Volunteer Board Treasurer serves as the board’s financial leader, ensuring WSUA maintains strong internal controls, accurate reporting, and responsible budgeting as the organization grows. This is a strategic oversight role with high impact and low administrative burden.
Key Responsibilities
- Review monthly financial statements, cash‑flow projections, and budget‑to‑actuals.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and present financial updates at board meetings.
- Oversee compliance with nonprofit financial standards and support preparation of Form 990.
- Strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and documentation practices.
- Provide financial guidance for grants, donor reporting, and restricted funds.
- Advise on long‑term sustainability planning as WSUA expands humanitarian programs.
Qualifications
- CPA, active or inactive, or equivalent professional experience in accounting, auditing, or nonprofit finance.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting.
- Ability to translate financial information clearly for a diverse board.
- Commitment to ethical stewardship and transparent governance.
- Prior board experience is welcome but not required.
Eligibility Requirement
Because this is a fiduciary governance role involving U.S. banking, compliance, and financial oversight, applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 4–6 hours per month.
- Quarterly board meetings (virtual).
- Occasional brief check‑ins during budgeting or reporting cycles.
