    Description

    Position Purpose

Board Members serve to define and protect the mission, values and direction of Petros Zoe Initiative. They hold legal and fiduciary responsibility for overall oversight of the organisation.

    Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of a Board Member include:

    1. Mission, Vision & Values
      • Ensure the organisation’s vision, mission and values are clearly articulated, upheld and aligned with all activities.
      • Ensure that PZI’s ministry objectives reflect these values and remain central in decision making.
    2. Policy & Strategic Oversight
      • Guide the adoption of policy and ensure all organisational activities align with the strategic ministry objetives.
      • Appoint, support and evaluate the performance of the President/CEO (or equivalent executive leadership) and ensure management is properly delegated and accountable.
    3. Fiscal & Fiduciary Accountability
      • Approve annual budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure the organisation’s assets are managed responsibly and ethically.
      • Oversee risk management, legal compliance, and ensure appropriate internal controls are in place.
    4. Global Representation & Unity
      • Represent the diversity of the global Petros Zoe family, reflecting a worldwide perspective in decision-making processes.
      • Maintain the unity of spirit and purpose across all global operations.
    5. Programme Engagement & Field Understanding
      • Travel periodically (as required) to observe programmatic implementation and engage on the ground, enabling informed oversight of international operations.
      • Ask critical questions about impact, quality, and outcomes of programmes, and ensure the board remains informed.
    6. Voluntary Service and Commitment
      • Serve as a voluntary (unpaid) role (except reasonable expenses) and commit sufficient time and resources to fulfil board duties.
      • Attend all regular board meetings (expectation of full attendance) and engage actively in committees or sub-groups where assigned.

    Qualifications & Experience

Ideal Board Member candidates should have:

    • Senior leadership experience in business, ministry, not-for-profit, or international development.
    • Demonstrated strategic thinking and ability to provide vision, oversight and governance rather than day-to-day management.
    • Global perspective and sensitivity to multi-cultural contexts, especially regarding child development, poverty alleviation and church-based ministry.
    • Strong ethical standards and alignment with the Christian faith and values of Petros Zoe Initiative (since PZIis a Christian child-development organisation).
    • Ability to travel abroad periodically and engage with field operations (church partners, sponsored programmes).
    • Commitment to attend board meetings, review board materials ahead of time, ask critical questions, and work collegially with other board members and leadership.

    Time Commitment & Term

    • Board Members are expected to attend all regularly scheduled board meetings and to participate in additional committee meetings or special sessions as needed.
    • May be asked to travel internationally (field visits) to deepen understanding of programme implementation and context.
    • Term length, re-appointment policy and rotation may be defined in the organisation’s bylaws (check PZI’s governance documents).
