    Description

Guide an Exchange Student's Journey. Create Global Connections in Your Community. Volunteer with AFS-USA!

Are you passionate about cultural exchange and making a meaningful impact in your community?

AFS-USA is a great way to use your skills and talents to support life-changing intercultural experiences while connecting with others who share your passion for global learning. For more than 75 years, AFS has connected people across cultures through international exchange programs that promote understanding, respect, and global citizenship. By volunteering with AFS, you'll help ensure that students from around the world have the support, guidance, and community they need to make the most of their exchange experience.

The AFS Milwaukee Area Team will welcome exchange students during the 2026-2027 school year, and we're looking for enthusiastic volunteers residing in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Greenfield, New Berlin, and beyond to help create a positive, supportive, and enriching experience for students, host families, and the local community!

How You Can Make a Difference

    • Serve as a Social Media Lead, promoting AFS opportunities within the Milwaukee Area Team and local community by managing social media accounts, engaging host families and students in outreach efforts, creating materials using AFS-USA branding and designs, and collecting and sharing content that highlights the impact of AFS programs and volunteer experiences.
    • Serve as a Hosting Lead, helping grow host family recruitment efforts in the Milwaukee Area Team by sharing the AFS mission with community members, collaborating with staff and volunteers to support prospective host families, facilitating required screening activities, and developing strong partnerships with local schools to increase awareness of AFS programs.
    • Serve as a Support Volunteer, partnering with the Support Coordinator and fellow volunteers to help students and host families navigate challenges, support participant wellbeing, and contribute to a safe and successful exchange experience.
    • Organize cultural, educational, and social activities that bring exchange students together, encourage cultural exploration, and create memorable experiences throughout their year in Milwaukee.
    • Support the Milwaukee Area Team by supporting students applying to our study abroad programs, recruiting volunteers and supporting current host families, helping coordinate team meetings and volunteer socials that foster connection, and serving as a champion for AFS within local schools, organizations, and the broader community.

Whether you have a few hours each month or are looking to take on a larger leadership opportunity, there is a place for you in the AFS community.

Why volunteer with us? You'll gain valuable leadership and intercultural communication skills, build friendships, and directly contribute to global peace and understanding—all without needing a passport!
