    Description

Hospice Volunteer Opportunity for Students and Service Hours – Tulsa Area

VitalCaring Hospice | Flexible, meaningful volunteer service for university students, service-learning participants, and community volunteers

    About the Opportunity

VitalCaring Hospice is seeking compassionate volunteers in the Tulsa and surrounding areas, especially university students and individuals looking to complete meaningful service hours. This opportunity is ideal for students in healthcare, social work, psychology, counseling, human services, education, ministry, communications, or anyone exploring a career in helping professions. Volunteers bring comfort, companionship, and practical support to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses while gaining valuable experience in empathy, communication, professionalism, and community service.

    What You’ll Do

    • Visit with patients for companionship, conversation, reading, music, games, or quiet presence.
    • Listen to life stories and provide encouragement to patients and family members.
    • Make friendly phone calls, write cards or letters, or help with simple comfort-focused activities.
    • Assist with office or administrative projects that support the hospice care team.
    • Use your interests or field of study in meaningful ways, such as music, art, writing, spiritual support, life review, legacy projects, or veteran-to-veteran connection when appropriate.

    Who We’re Looking For

    • University students, service-learning participants, and community members who want hands-on service experience.
    • People seeking volunteer hours for school, scholarships, clubs, organizations, programs, or personal goals.
    • Compassionate, dependable volunteers who are comfortable offering a calm and caring presence.
    • Good listeners who respect patient dignity, privacy, and individual preferences.
    • No medical background is required; training and ongoing guidance are provided.

    Time Commitment

Flexible scheduling is available and can often work around classes, exams, jobs, internships, and campus activities. Volunteers may serve during the week, evenings, or weekends depending on patient needs and volunteer availability. We can discuss service-hour documentation needs during the application process, and ongoing volunteers are especially helpful for building trust with patients and families.

    Location

Tulsa, Oklahoma, and surrounding communities. Volunteer placements may vary based on patient location, care setting, and current needs.

    Why Volunteer with VitalCaring Hospice?

Hospice volunteering is not about having all the answers. It is about showing up with kindness. Students and service-hour volunteers can make a real difference while developing communication skills, compassion, cultural awareness, responsibility, and confidence in supporting others. Your time can help reduce loneliness, support caregivers, and remind patients and families that their community cares.
