    Description

We can all use a break sometime and that's especially true for those who are taking care of others! They spend countless hours working to improve the quality of life for their loved ones. But what about their quality of life? Those who are full-time caregivers are usually too busy caring for others that they don't take the time to care of their own needs. But, you can help these people get the well-deserved break they need!

If you can spend 2-4 hours every week, or even every month, sitting with someone receiving hospice services, this will give their caregivers the gifts of time and peace of mind. Caregivers may spend that time running errands, having lunch with friends, going to a church function, or even just taking a nap.

Your role as a volunteer would be to visit the family home and provide a presence for their loved one. Sometimes this means interacting with the person being cared for and sometimes it means sitting quietly and watch T.V. or reading until the caregiver returns. Mainly, you are there to ensure a safe and comforting environment, giving the caregiver the confidence and ability to take a short break.

Gentiva Hospice trains volunteers and provides matches with families in need. Please contact us to begin helping families in need or learn more about the process.
