    Description

    Position Summary

    Creatively Black Baltimore is seeking volunteer docents to help welcome visitors, guide guests through exhibitions or event spaces, and support meaningful engagement with Black art, culture, history, and creativity in Baltimore. Volunteer docents serve as friendly ambassadors who help create a warm, informed, and inspiring experience for guests, artists, partners, and community members.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Welcome guests and provide a positive first impression
    • Assist visitors with navigating exhibitions, programs, or event spaces
    • Share basic information about featured artists, installations, vendors, programs, or community partners
    • Help answer general guest questions or direct them to the appropriate staff member
    • Support check-in, registration, guest flow, and wayfinding as needed
    • Help monitor gallery, event, or activation spaces to ensure a respectful visitor experience
    • Assist with setup, breakdown, and light administrative or event support when needed
    • Encourage guests to engage with Creatively Black Baltimore’s mission, programming, and community work
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Friendly, professional, and comfortable speaking with the public
    • Interest in Black art, culture, history, storytelling, entrepreneurship, or community engagement
    • Strong communication and listening skills
    • Dependable, punctual, and willing to follow directions
    • Comfortable interacting with artists, visitors, families, vendors, and community partners
    • Prior experience in museums, galleries, events, education, customer service, or community programs is helpful but not required

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be comfortable standing or walking for extended periods of time
    • May be asked to assist with light setup or moving event materials
    • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds preferred
    • Must be comfortable working in indoor and/or outdoor event settings
