Human Resources Associate (Volunteer)

About A Free Bird
A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides Arts Education to children affected by cancer through creative programs and services, both in person and online. Our talented Art Educators help children explore their creative side through a range of mediums, such as art, music, acting, writing, and singing. They are encouraged to find an art form that appeals to them, then receive tuition, materials, and guidance. About the Role
A Free Bird is seeking a motivated and organized Human Resources Associate to support the Human Resources Department with recruitment, onboarding, and administrative operations. This role is ideal for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit HR, talent acquisition, and volunteer coordination within a collaborative remote environment.
The HR Associate will work closely with HR leadership and department managers to support recruitment efforts, improve communication between teams, and help maintain efficient HR processes across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and onboard new volunteers and team members
- Schedule and participate in interviews with applicants
- Review and evaluate resumes based on job descriptions and department needs
- Post and update job openings across online platforms
- Assist with onboarding documentation and orientation processes
- Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with team members across departments
- Communicate with department leaders regarding hiring needs and candidate progress
- Maintain organized recruitment trackers, spreadsheets, and HR records
- Conduct research related to recruitment strategies, HR practices, and organizational needs
- Assist with administrative tasks and special HR projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
- Interest in Human Resources, recruitment, nonprofit operations, or organizational development
- Comfortable using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office tools
- Strong attention to detail and professionalism
- Ability to multitask and manage responsibilities efficiently
- 1+ years of HR experience
