    Description

    Are you a licensed attorney looking for a way to fight for our immigrant neighbors? If so, consider volunteering as a pro bono attorney for New England JFON’s Pro Bono program.

    About New England Justice for Our Neighbors:

    New England Justice for Our Neighbors (New England JFON) is a 501(c)(3) organization providing free and low-cost legal services to low- or no-income Massachusetts immigrants seeking humanitarian legal relief. Now in our 15th year of service, we serve clients through several programs with a service area across all of Massachusetts except the Cape and islands. New England JFON served over 400 clients in 2025. Studies show that representation in immigration court increases an individual’s chances of a successful case by five to ten times.

    Extensive training, resources, and mentorship will be provided to volunteer attorneys by a New England JFON attorney. Depending on their capacity, pro bono attorneys may take on cases for full representation or work on specific tasks such as drafting affidavits and forms. A New England JFON attorney will serve as lead counsel on all cases, with pro bono attorneys entering their appearance as secondary for court appearances if desired.

    Responsibilities:

    Perform ordinary functions of legal counsel as needed on cases represented by New England JFON. Tasks may include:

    • Completing and reviewing forms for clients;
    • Preparing and drafting client affidavits;
    • Motions and/or other relevant filings to the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court, Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR/Immigration Court), and United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS);
    • Representation of clients before the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court, Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR/Immigration Court), and United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS);
    • Legal research and writing.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be a member in good standing with any United States jurisdiction legal bar; Massachusetts bar admission preferred
    • Prior experience in humanitarian immigration relief is not required, but a plus
    • A commitment of at least one year is preferred but not required
