Mobile App Developer for Wildlife Conservation Organization

    App Developer (Volunteer)

    About Pathos Wildlife

Pathos Wildlife is a growing conservation organization dedicated to protecting wildlife around the world through cutting-edge technology, research, and community-driven solutions. As a young organization, we are building the digital infrastructure needed to scale our impact and connect people more directly to the wildlife they help protect.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a creative and motivated App Developer to help design and build a mobile experience that brings people closer to wildlife conservation in a meaningful and engaging way.

A core upcoming initiative at Pathos Wildlife is a camera trap sponsorship program, where supporters can sponsor a field camera placed in wild habitats. In return, they receive ongoing visual updates from the animals their support helps monitor—creating a direct, personal connection to conservation in action.

As the App Developer, you will help bring this experience to life through a mobile platform that allows users to engage with their sponsored camera traps, view wildlife imagery, and stay connected to real-time conservation work in the field.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about wildlife, storytelling through technology, and building user-centered mobile applications with real-world impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and develop a mobile application (iOS, Android, or cross-platform) for the Pathos Wildlife camera trap sponsorship program
    • Build a user-friendly interface that allows supporters to view and engage with wildlife imagery from their sponsored camera traps
    • Collaborate with the team to translate conservation goals into intuitive app features and user experiences
    • Develop systems for image delivery, gallery viewing, and sponsor-camera relationships in a scalable way
    • Ensure the app is responsive, accessible, and optimized for performance across devices
    • Integrate backend services (or work with backend collaborators) to support image storage, user accounts, and data flow
    • Help define app structure, navigation, and overall user journey
    • Implement secure and reliable data handling practices
    • Contribute ideas for improving engagement, storytelling, and long-term user retention
    • Assist in future feature expansion as the platform grows (e.g., notifications, habitat updates, conservation impact tracking)

    Preferred Skills (But Not Required)

    • Experience developing mobile applications
    • Understanding of mobile UX/UI design principles
    • Familiarity with API integration and cloud-based data systems
    • Experience working with image-heavy applications or media delivery systems
    • Basic understanding of authentication systems and user management
    • Ability to collaborate remotely with a multidisciplinary team
    • Interest in wildlife conservation, environmental technology, or nonprofit innovation
    • Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently

    What You’ll Gain

    • Opportunity to build a real-world mobile application from the ground up for a global conservation initiative
    • Experience developing a platform that directly connects users to wildlife they are helping protect
    • Portfolio-worthy project combining technology, conservation, and storytelling
    • Collaboration with conservation scientists, field researchers, and nonprofit leadership
    • Exposure to conservation technology, citizen engagement tools, and impact-driven product development
    • Direct contribution to a program that supports wildlife monitoring and conservation funding worldwide

    Time Commitment

This is a flexible, fully remote volunteer position. It is well-suited for students, early-career developers, or experienced engineers looking to apply their skills to a meaningful, mission-driven project. Time commitment can be adjusted based on availability and project phase.
