Volunteer at Berkeley (Amistad House): Bingo Caller

Description:

This opportunity is for a volunteer to assist with the setup and facilitation of a monthly Bingo activity for senior residents at Amistad House in Berkeley. The volunteer will help lead Bingo games, socialize with residents, and create a fun, welcoming environment that encourages participation and community connection. Sessions are held monthly on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays between 1:00–2:00 PM or 2:00–3:00 PM, depending on availability. This role supports resident engagement and helps fulfill site programming needs.

Reports to:

Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator

Goal of Position:

To provide senior residents with an engaging recreational activity that supports mental stimulation, fine motor skills, social connection, and community building while helping prevent social isolation.

Specific Tasks:

1. Assist with setting up the Bingo space, including boards, calling materials, and supplies.
2. Ensure all participating residents sign the sign-in sheet.
3. Explain Bingo rules as needed and assist residents during gameplay.
4. Call Bingo numbers clearly and help monitor games.
5. Support prize distribution to winners.
6. Encourage resident participation and positive social interaction.
7. Assist with cleaning up and returning materials after the session.

Qualifications:

Physical/Age Requirements:

• Able to lift and carry Bingo materials and prizes.
• Able to speak clearly and loudly for a group setting.

Skills/Education/Experience:

• Enjoys playing games and working with seniors.
• Friendly, patient, and open-minded.
• Comfortable facilitating group activities.
• Prior experience with Bingo or group games is helpful.
• Ability to speak Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, or Farsi is a plus but not required.
